Some of our latest 5 Star Reviews

“Excellent as usual. Efficient, come when they plan to come. Clear up afterwards. Friendly and easy to have around.”

“I have had nearly the whole house(inside and out) painted by Matt and his team over the past few years. Every member of the team is polite, careful in and around the property, hardworking and always leave the area clean and tidy at the end of the day. The quality of finish is very high, and the rates are very reasonable. I have no hesitation in recommending Matt for any decorating job, interior or exterior, large or small.”

“We have had Matt do some work for us three times now and have recommended him to several others. He and his team are friendly and courteous as well as neat and tidy! Until now I have mostly done the painting and decorating myself – it was so much nicer having someone else do the work (and there was lot to do!). Cap that all off with a really good job and we were very pleased!”

“Matt and the team were very professional and considerate, doing their best to limit any disruption. They completed external and internal painting jobs to a very high standard. Matt always informed us who was coming and when, and the job was completed on schedule. I will be using Prime Finish again.”

Decorating Tips

Strip the room of everything that protrudes out from walls.

Avoid having anything sticking out from the walls, especially in very narrow rooms or bathrooms. This means that you may refrain from a towel rail and mount it to the back of the door. Go with built-in toilet paper holders and magazine settings. Also try to avoid decorative shelves. All this removes precious square meters.

Up light your ceilings to create the illusion of a higher ceiling

You can use design tricks through lighting to visually enhance the space in a small room. To make the room seem bigger, try the ceiling with wall cones or cove lighting. It will create the impression of higher ceilings and more expansive space. For a crowded room, a wall with light will illuminate an illusion of a more open area.

Open up the ceiling by painting it with a Sky Blue

If you have a small space with a high ceiling, you play it up by painting the ceiling a light blue with some small clouds to pay special attention to detail.

Install clear shower cubicles to facilitate visual transparency

To give the illusion of more space, eliminate as many visual blocks as possible when choosing fixtures and materials: for example – Clear shower cabinets with minimal hardware; swinging doors rather than bypass if at all possible.

Get creative storage solutions

Storage must have: towels, toilet paper, daily necessities (teeth, cleaners, makeup, etc.).

Waste speed: Pedestal water (beautiful but not functional if you have limited space). Remember: Behind the door hooks for towels and robes or over the door pockets to hold small objects (hair, makeup) and medicine cabinets and / or shelves that sit inside the walls, between the studs.

Mount the floor tiles on a diagonal

Place floor tiles on a diagonal. This will give the room an illusion to be bigger. Larger plates with thin grooves will also give the appearance of more square meters.

Hang the toilet from the wall

A great way to maximize a small bathtub is to use wall-mounted cabinets and toilets with oversized floor tiles. Today’s product range on both of these areas is very expansive as in previous years and there are styles that suit everyone’s taste and decor. The wall hanging toilet and cupboard show more of the floor and gives the illusion that the room is larger than what is shown.

Install a mirror with recessed medicine cover

Another large space saver is a fully mirrored recessed medicine cabinet. When installed, the cabinet looks like a stylish flat or screened mirror, but has hidden 4-inch storage, which is the depth of a standard wall. These cabinets are available in different heights and widths to accommodate most applications and the best part about the cabinet is the fully mirrored interior so you can easily see which product is behind the mouthwash bottle!

Limit yourself to two main colours

Keep it simple. Busy wallpaper, too many colours, patterned fabrics and accessories will make the room feel messy and smaller. Two colours work well in a small room. One for wall paint and another for accessories.

Beware of busy details

When selecting materials, be aware of the cumulative effect of patterns. Tiling and patterns in tiles and floors, decorative details about hardware and cabinets can “crowd” a room. On the other hand, only small-scale patterns can emphasize that the room is small. Containing larger scaled lustre or architectural features sparingly can give the room more importance.
